Study finds Ontario surgeries have better outcomes on Mondays than Fridays

The 'weekend effect' means a group of 1,000 patients could result in 8 more cases of complications for those treated on a Friday

An Ontario study of over 400,000 patients undergoing 25 common surgeries found that patients operated on Fridays had a higher likelihood of negative outcomes (death, readmission, complications, longer stay) at 30 days and one year post-surgery compared to those operated on Mondays. This "weekend effect" was most pronounced in elective surgeries.
