A former Team GB swimmer who competed at the 2012 London Olympic Games has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for raping two schoolgirls.

Antony James, a 35-year-old former Team GB Olympic swimmer, has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for raping two teenage girls and forcing them to engage in sexual acts with other men. James, who competed at the 2012 London Olympics, was convicted of grooming and sexually abusing the girls, with the abuse occurring over a decade between 2012 and 2022. The court heard how James manipulated the first victim, then 14, into believing they were in a relationship before raping her in her home. The second victim was raped on two occasions. James was found guilty of multiple charges, including rape and sexual activity with a child, while some charges remained unresolved. The judge described James as a "high-achieving swimmer" who exploited his reputation for personal gain. James will serve two-thirds of his sentence before being released on licence and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
