Trudeau says Canada will not back down as Trump eyes larger tariff exemptions

'I can confirm that we will continue to be in a trade war that was launched by the United States for the foreseeable future,' Trudeau said

Trump paused tariffs on Canadian goods under CUSMA until April 2, leading Canada to postpone its second round of retaliatory tariffs. Canada continues to push for the removal of all tariffs. Initially, Trump imposed tariffs, prompting Canada to respond with tariffs on $30 billion of U.S. goods and threats of more. Trump then announced exemptions, including for the auto sector until April 2, followed by a potential pause for all goods under CUSMA, after an agreement with Mexico.
