Trump administration halts support for representing unaccompanied children in immigration court

The Trump administration has stopped support for legal representation in immigration court for children who enter the United States alone, a setback for those fighting deportation who can’t afford a lawyer

The Trump administration has ceased federal support for legal representation of unaccompanied children in immigration court, affecting 26,000 children served by the Acacia Center for Justice through a network of 85 organizations. This follows the Justice Department's prior suspension of support for other contracts. Advocacy groups, including the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies, criticize the decision, asserting it leaves vulnerable children without adequate legal defense.
