President announces ‘secondary tariff’ amid baseless claim that Venezuela is sending criminals to the US Donald Trump’s forceful attack on the American judiciary hits the appeals court today for a high-stakes hearing over the president’s controversial use of wartime powers to deport foreign migrants.Politico reports that the Trump administration will urge a three-member appeals panel to overturn federal judge James Boasberg’s temporary restraining order blocking use of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to deport planeloads of migrants without due process. Justice Department lawyers will also demand Boasberg be thrown off the case following a ferocious weeklong effort to publicly discredit him led by the president himself.
