Allein im Februar hat die Kinder-Notaufnahme im drittgrößten deutschen Uniklinikum 1200 Mädchen und Jungen behandelt. Mehr als 1000 davon mussten nicht ins Krankenhaus aufgenommen werden - doch nicht wenige Eltern reagieren darauf aggressiv.
University hospital emergency rooms are overloaded, with the children's emergency room in Giessen treating 1200 children in February alone, partly due to a flu wave and parents bypassing pediatricians. Many cases are not emergencies and could be handled by general practitioners or the on-call medical service. Hospital directors say better patient guidance is needed, and that patients who do not need university medical treatment should be treated at another hospital.
