The trade union Community made the call as it published a new report on the future of the steel industry in the UK.
The Community trade union is urging investment in the UK's only plate steel mill, Dalzell steelworks in Scotland, to modernize it and make it a world leader in producing steel for offshore wind turbines. Their report, "Steel Reforged," highlights the strategic importance of the mill, the significant demand for steel in the offshore wind sector, and calls for government action to support the UK steel industry, including incentivizing the use of UK-made steel and reducing industrial electricity prices. The union believes revitalizing the steel industry will support jobs, contribute to the economy, and meet the demands of a greener economy.
