Urgent warning over 'record high' levels of killer 'bone breaker' virus landing in the UK

Officials have now urged Britons to take precautions to prevent catching the disease while overseas after cases of a potentially fatal disease arriving in British travellers surged 43 per cent in a year.

The UK experienced a record 904 cases of dengue fever in 2024, a 43% increase from 2023. The UKHSA advises travellers to take precautions against mosquito bites. Most cases are linked to travel from South Asia and South America. While dengue transmission isn't currently a risk in the UK, mosquitoes capable of carrying the virus have been found. Vulnerable populations should avoid travel to affected areas.
