Since the launch of the VPD's Task Force Barrage, 153 arrest warrants have been executed, and a total of 204 Criminal Code arrests were made over the same period.
Vancouver police report early success for Task Force Barrage, launched in mid-February to target crime in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. In the first five weeks, the task force executed 153 arrest warrants, made 204 Criminal Code arrests, and seized 197 weapons. Police have received 4,760 calls for service in the DTES since the task force began. Added police patrols have produced a 258 per cent increase in weapons seizures and a decrease in assaults. The task force is planned to continue for at least six months.
