Julia Wandelt, 23, remains in custody, her representative confirmed
A Polish woman, Julia Wandelt, claiming to be Madeleine McCann, was arrested at Bristol Airport on suspicion of stalking Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann. The arrest was carried out by Avon and Somerset Police on behalf of Leicestershire Police, where the McCanns live. Madeleine, who was three when she went missing in Portugal in 2007, has remained missing despite extensive investigations. Wandelt gained attention in 2023 by claiming to be Madeleine on Instagram, despite DNA evidence showing she is Polish. She later presented new DNA results alleging a relation to Gerry McCann and claimed experts matched her features to Madeleine's. The case remains under investigation, with links to Christian Brueckner, a convicted sex offender serving a sentence for a 2005 rape in Portugal's Algarve region, where Madeleine went missing.
