In Germany, housing construction may be past its lowest point as building permits increased in January for the second consecutive month, marking the largest rise in three years. Single-family home permits rose significantly (21.7%), while two-family home permits decreased (10.1%). Multi-family home permits, the largest building type, increased by 5.8%. Despite this recent increase, overall building permit numbers have declined sharply since April 2022 due to higher interest rates and expensive materials, with a projected 45% drop compared to 2023.
