Alberta claims cut to Edmonton sexual assault centre was a 'one

Children and Family Services Minister Searle Turton said at a news conference on Monday that operational funding for sexual assault centres has increased.

The Alberta government claims a $1.8 million funding cut to the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE), which forced SACE to pause services, was a "one-time grant." Minister Turton states operational funding for sexual assault centres has increased and the grant was issued with clear communication of it being a "one-time grant", while SACE's chief executive officer, Mary Jane James, disputes this, stating the funding was not a one-time grant, co-CEO of AASAS states that the need for predictable long-term funding is needed.
