Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton gets $100K in donations after funding issues force intakes pause

It goes a long way to demonstrating to us that yes, there are tons of people in our community who support the work that we're doing," the CEO of SACE, told Global News on Monday.

The Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE) received $100,000 in donations after funding issues forced them to pause intakes and lay off staff. The funding issues stem from the end of a $1.8 million provincial grant from 2023, despite renewed operational funding. The donations will be used to support the clinical team and impacted services such as adult and youth counseling. The province stated it recognizes the role sexual assault centres have in supporting survivors, and has plans to increase funding.
