BREAKING: Seb Coe falls short as IOC votes for Kirsty Coventry to become next president

In a minor shock just one round of voting was required to elect Kirsty Coventry as the IOC's 10th president and first female and African to be handed the biggest job in world sport

Kirsty Coventry was elected IOC president, defeating Sebastian Coe and Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr. in a surprise landslide victory. Coventry, a six-time Olympic medalist from Zimbabwe, will be the first female and African president of the IOC. Coe's defeat is attributed to discontent among IOC members regarding his decision to pay gold medalists in athletics. Coventry will begin her eight-year term in June.
