Conor McManus: ‘The pain was so bad I knew I wouldn’t be able to make it back to the house’

One of the modern greats of Gaelic football reflects on his career with Monaghan ahead of starting a new column for The Irish Times in Championship 2025



Conor McManus, recently retired from Monaghan GAA, experienced debilitating hip pain during a walk, requiring a rescue. He retired as Monaghan's all-time leading scorer and most-capped player, surpassing previous scoring leaders. McManus will be writing for The Irish Times during the championship. He has no plans to return to intercounty football.
