Coroner to give conclusion at inquest into death of teenage soldier

A coroner is set to conclude the inquest into the death of 19-year-old Gunner Beck, a teenage soldier who was found dead after being subjected to intense harassment by her "psychotic and possessive" boss, Ryan Mason. The inquest heard that Mason, a bombardier at the time, sent Beck over 4,000 messages in two months, expressing his love for her and causing her to feel unsafe. Beck had also complained about a sexual assault by another senior soldier, Battery Sergeant Major Michael Webber, during a training exercise. The Army's inquiry report identified three contributory factors to her death: the harassment by Mason, a sexual relationship with a married colleague, and excessive alcohol consumption. The family rejected claims that family issues contributed to her death. The coroner, Nicholas Rheinberg, will deliver his conclusion on February 20.
