Defence now Europe's 'number one focus' says Irish officer taking up military role in Brussels

A team from Ireland takes over at the head of the European Union Military Committee in June.

An Irish team, led by Defence Forces chief of staff Sean Clancy and including Colonel Tim O'Brien, will head the European Union Military Committee (EUMC) in June. O'Brien stated that security and defence are now the EU's "number one focus" as the EU works to build consensus on defense capabilities. Clancy, as head of the EUMC, will advise civilian decision-makers and lead EU missions.
