Egypt makes new truce offer as Israeli strikes in Gaza kill 65, say local officials

Cairo’s plan calls for Hamas to release five Israeli hostages each week, according to security sources

Egypt proposed a new Gaza ceasefire deal involving Hamas releasing five Israeli hostages weekly, with Israel implementing the second phase after the first week. The plan includes a timeline for a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, backed by US guarantees, in exchange for remaining hostages. Israeli strikes in Gaza killed 65 Palestinians in 24 hours, according to local officials, with nearly 700 Palestinians, including 400 women and children, killed since the conflict resumed. UNRWA is reducing its presence in Gaza after five staff members were killed, while 124,000 Palestinians have been displaced.
