‘Global weirding’: climate whiplash hitting world’s biggest cities, study reveals

A study reveals that "climate whiplash," characterized by extreme swings between wet and dry weather, is impacting major cities worldwide due to the intensifying climate crisis. Many cities, including Jakarta, Madrid, and Cairo, have experienced climate "flips" in the last 20 years. The analysis of over 100 cities found that most showed a trend towards wetter or drier conditions, leading to worsened floods and droughts, impacting water access, sanitation, food, and displacing communities. Cities with poor water infrastructure, like Karachi and Khartoum, are most vulnerable. Regional trends show drying in Europe, the Arabian peninsula, and the US, while south and south-east Asia experience more downpours, highlighting the human-caused global heating's climate chaos in urban areas.
