Man loses challenge over refusal of access to late mother’s accounts

Challenge brought against Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman’s refusal of complaint

A man's High Court challenge was dismissed after the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman (FSPO) refused to investigate his complaint about being denied access to his late mother's bank accounts. The FSPO deemed him not an "appropriate person" to complain on behalf of the estate. The court ruled the challenge was filed outside the time limit for judicial reviews and that the FSPO's decision regarding jurisdiction was correct. The case involved a dispute with his sister over the accounts, held jointly with their mother at the Educational Building Society (EBS).
