Manitoba drops ‘God Save The King’ rule at school, tries to enshrine school nutrition

The Manitoba government put forward sweeping changes to the school day Thursday — eliminating a requirement to sing "God Save The King,"



Manitoba is proposing legislative changes to schools, including removing the requirement to sing "God Save The King," mandating land and treaty acknowledgements, allowing Indigenous language instruction, ensuring education on treaties and Indigenous contributions, and enshrining a free daily school nutrition program. The nutrition program proposal includes a clause that would cut cabinet ministers' salaries if the program is altered in the future, a move considered constitutionally dubious.
