Mountie ‘outright lied,’ lawyer alleges at B.C. discipline hearing

An RCMP lawyer is alleging a Mountie who testified at his own discipline hearing on in B.C. on Monday "outright lied" on the stand.

At a British Columbia RCMP code of conduct hearing in Surrey on March 11, 2025, an RCMP lawyer alleged a Mountie, Ian Solven, "outright lied" about apologizing to a female colleague for derogatory comments about her weight. The hearing, involving multiple officers, was disrupted by new evidence and an allegedly inflammatory email from Coquitlam RCMP leadership, prompting concerns of witness intimidation and a potential stay of proceedings. A lawyer for the RCMP conduct authority representative stated that evidence came to light, after Solven's testimony, alleging he lied.
