‘My heart is broken’ says Dublin surgeon blocked from entering Gaza Strip

Dr Mohamed Shaalan had travelled to Middle East before latest attacks that killed more than 400

Dublin-based surgeon Dr. Mohamed Shaalan was denied entry into Gaza after traveling to Jordan, while two Australian doctors in his group were granted permission. Shaalan, who volunteered in Gaza previously, reports that Gaza medics are overwhelmed by injuries from Israeli air strikes. Over 400 people have died in the attacks. Shaalan says that Gaza hospitals lack surgeons, equipment, and updated training, leading to exhausted and overburdened Palestinian doctors. He is concerned about ongoing denials of entry by Israeli authorities despite his determination to return.
