A fire in Leverkusen-Biesenbach rendered the city's oldest timber-framed house uninhabitable, requiring extensive renovations expected to last a year. Ninety firefighters struggled with difficult conditions, including narrow streets and limited water supply, to contain the blaze to the roof of the 1521 structure. The resident, who was not home at the time, lived with three cats, all of whom escaped; two have returned.
