North Sea collision: Container ship’s captain arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter

Inquiries under way following collision off coast of England that led to death of one sailor



The captain of a container ship, the Solong, was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter following a North Sea collision with the Stena Immaculate tanker. One sailor is presumed dead. The Solong's owner denied reports of sodium cyanide in its cargo, confirming only empty containers previously holding the chemical were on board. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing. All 36 other mariners were safely brought ashore.
