North Sea tanker crash latest: Oil ship bursts into ‘massive fireball’ after colliding with cargo vessel
An oil tanker carrying jet fuel for the US military collided with a cargo ship carrying sodium cyanide in the North Sea off the East Yorkshire coast, causing a "massive fireball" and multiple explosions. The oil tanker was at anchor when the cargo ship struck it at speed, rupturing a cargo tank. More than 30 casualties were brought ashore with one person in hospital. The cargo ship was carrying 15 containers of sodium cyanide. Authorities are assessing potential environmental damage.
