Omagh families ‘woefully let down’ by police, father of victim tells inquiry

Victor Barker, the father of 12-year-old James Barker, who was killed in the Omagh bombing in 1998, told the Omagh Bombing Inquiry that the families of the victims were "woefully let down" by a poorly conducted police investigation. Barker criticized former Chief Constable Sir Ronnie Flanagan and expressed frustration over the civil case's impact on the families. The inquiry, held at the Strule Arts Centre, also heard from survivors, emergency responders, and others affected by the bombing. Paramedic Richard Quigley described the harrowing scenes at the blast site, while survivor Maeve O'Brien recounted how her life was irrevocably changed by the attack. The inquiry continues to examine the aftermath of the bombing, which killed 29 people, including a pregnant woman.
