Parking fines in London to increase to £160 after Sadiq Khan gives green light to councils

Councils seek first increase in fines since 2010 to tackle epidemic of ‘anti-social and obstructive parking’

London's parking fines are set to increase to £160 following approval by Mayor Sadiq Khan. The hike, the first since 2010, aims to deter anti-social and obstructive parking, with fines rising across all bands. Band A areas will see fines increase from £130 to £160, while band B areas will rise from £110 to £140. Lower-level fines will also increase, such as from £80 to £110 in band A and £60 to £90 in band B. The revenue from these fines will fund transport schemes, including the Freedom Pass. Despite opposition from nearly half of consultation respondents, councils argue the increase will improve safety and compliance. The number of fines issued has risen significantly, with a notable increase in moving traffic offenses caught by CCTV.
