Report finds unvetted staff and overcrowding in asylum seeker accommodation

The inspection found 35 per cent of staff across centres were not appropriately vetted by gardaí.

A HIQA report on Irish IPAS centers (asylum seeker accommodation) found that over half lacked effective governance, over a third lacked policies to protect residents, and 35% of staff were not appropriately vetted. The report also highlighted overcrowding due to limited housing options for those already granted refugee status. HIQA indicated the system is under-resourced and impacting accommodation quality.
