Social Protection officials may be allowed to sit in on Garda interviews in welfare fraud investigations

Dara Calleary looking at legislation on this issue on foot of recommendations of review group on economic crime

This follows a 2020 government review recommending the measure to improve efficiency and effectiveness of investigations. The proposed changes could be included in broader social welfare legislation being drafted by Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary, which also addresses unconstitutional pension provisions.
