Southwest Airlines Flight 2504, en route from Omaha to Chicago Midway International Airport, narrowly avoided a collision on February 18, 2025, when a business jet crossed the runway without authorization. The Southwest crew performed a precautionary go-around, climbing to 3,000 feet, and landed safely afterward. The business jet's pilot misstated instructions, failing to hold short of the runway. The Federal Aviation Administration and FlexJet, the business jet's operator, acknowledged the incident. An aviation expert called it a "very serious runway incursion" but noted it was avoided due to the Southwest crew's quick action.
