A Bulgarian spy ring, linked to fugitive Wirecard CEO Jan Marsalek and believed to be working for Russian intelligence, surveilled Grozev and his colleague Roman Dobrokhotov. The ring's activities, though sometimes amateurish, were deemed dangerous, and included plans for surveillance, honey-traps, break-ins, and a potential kidnapping.
