Three arrests for mobiles smuggled into central prison fridge
Three men have been detained in connection with a scheme to smuggle 14 mobile phones and 12 charging cables into the central prison in Cyprus. The devices were hidden in a refrigerator, which was allegedly intended for a life-sentenced prisoner accused of organizing the operation. The prisoner's brother and a home appliance seller were also arrested. Police intercepted the scheme after receiving intelligence about an attempt to smuggle prohibited items, including drugs. The refrigerator was delivered by one suspect, who claimed unawareness of the hidden phones. The investigation revealed connections to a previous drug-related case involving the life-sentenced prisoner. Authorities requested detention for the suspects, stating that crimes were being organized from within the prison, and further arrests cannot be ruled out.
