York University professors seek court order to stop program suspensions
York University professors are seeking a court order to halt the university's suspension of admissions to 18 undergraduate programs (including Indigenous studies, gender and women’s studies, and environmental biology) for Fall 2025. The professors allege the decision was made unilaterally, violating the senate's jurisdiction over academic matters. The university cites low enrollment in these programs as the reason for the temporary suspension, aiming to revise them for long-term viability. Students express disappointment, learning of the suspensions through the media, but the university assures current students will have a path to graduation.
