Natasha Johnson-Mall, 27, and Karlo Bogdan, 24, who died their dogs, 'didn't have a chance' of escaping the inferno sparked by an e-bike battery, a firefighter has said.

A young couple, Natasha Johnson-Mall and Karlo Bogdan, along with their dogs, perished in a house fire in Stoke Aldermoor, Coventry, caused by an e-bike battery ignition on November 8, 2025. Firefighter Dell Haughton described the fire as one of the worst he's encountered, characterized by intense heat and smoke, making escape impossible. The inquest concluded their deaths were accidental. The West Midlands Fire Service reported a 50% rise in e-bike and lithium-ion battery fires over two years, prompting warnings about safety. Natasha's sister and officials urged caution in purchasing e-bikes, emphasizing the need for rigorous safety testing.
