Young people urged to check payslips ahead of National Minimum Wage rise in April

The minimum wage will rise by 6.7 per cent for over three million workers in the UK, including 200,000 in Scotland.

The National Minimum Wage in the UK is set to increase by 6.7% in April, impacting over 3 million workers, including 200,000 in Scotland. Advice Direct Scotland advises young workers, particularly apprentices, to verify their payslips to ensure they receive the correct wage. Additionally, those under 22 are encouraged to check for unclaimed Child Trust Funds. Employers may overlook training hours or deduct costs for uniforms, potentially leading to underpayment. The new rates vary by age: £12.21 for over-21s, £10 for 18-20-year-olds, and £7.55 for apprentices. The charity emphasizes the importance of understanding one's rights and reviewing payslips to avoid underpayment.
