Court finds original sentence for accountant (45) who sought out boys for sex was too lenient

Daniel Lasota, of Carr Street, Limerick, was jailed for six years at the Court of Criminal Appeal, after it found his original sentence of two and a half years was “unduly lenient”.

Daniel Lasota, a 45-year-old accountant, had his original two-and-a-half-year sentence for seeking out boys for sex deemed "unduly lenient" by the Court of Criminal Appeal. His sentence was increased to six years. Lasota, originally from Poland, admitted to meeting a 15-year-old boy for sex and used Grindr to solicit another user to have sex with the boy. Gardaí found messages on his phone referencing children as young as 11 and 12. The court found the original sentence was an "error in principle" and that the offense relating to a second child warranted a separate sentence.
