Designs for Manitoba flood prevention project to be completed this spring: minister

The Manitoba government expects new designs of a long-promised flood prevention project will be completed later this year.

Manitoba expects to complete designs this spring for the Lake Manitoba and Lake St. Martin outlet channels project, a flood prevention initiative promised for over a decade following severe 2011 flooding. The project, budgeted at $809 million, aims to drain water from Lake Manitoba, but has faced delays due to concerns from local First Nations regarding environmental impact and consultation. While the province commits to working with First Nations, final approval and project commencement are pending their agreement.
