Idaho desperately wants to build a facility to execute by firing squad. But nobody wants the contract

Idaho is looking to renovate its death row to accommodate firing squad executions, but contractors are shying away from helping build the facility, Michelle Del Rey writes



Idaho passed a law in 2023 allowing firing squads as a backup execution method and allocated funds to renovate its execution chamber. However, the state is struggling to find contractors willing to build the facility due to ethical concerns. The Idaho Department of Correction is exploring alternative execution methods, including remote-operated weapons systems.
