Lifting weights helps older people beat insomnia, research suggests

According to sleep experts, muscle building or resistance style training such as dumbbell and barbell use can greatly enhance one's ability to fall asleep.

New research suggests that lifting weights can help older adults combat insomnia. A study published in the *Family Medicine and Community Health* journal found that strength or resistance exercises, such as weightlifting, are the most effective at improving sleep quality in older populations. While other forms of exercise, like aerobic, balance, flexibility, and combination exercises, also help, they are less effective than resistance training. The study highlights the importance of resistance exercise in addressing sleep issues among older adults.
