Nasa upgrades chances of asteroid 2024 YR4 hitting Earth in disaster event
NASA has upgraded the likelihood of asteroid 2024 YR4 colliding with Earth to its highest recorded probability, now at 3.1% (1-in-32 chance) in 2032, up from 2.6%. This increase stems from more precise observations refining the asteroid's trajectory. While the risk remains low, the potential impact area could affect over 100 million people. The asteroid, estimated to be 40-90 meters in size, is currently moving away from Earth and expected to be out of view by April. It is classified as a 3 on the Torino Scale, indicating a concern but not a global threat.
