Canada’s youth say their mental health is in crisis due to the skyrocketing cost of living

The research, by the Policy Institute at King’s College London and Ipsos Canada surveyed people across generations in Canada, the U.K. and Australia.

A study found that nearly two-thirds of Canadians attribute youth mental health problems to the rising cost of living. A 2023 study in British Columbia found that 22% of youth reported having anxiety disorders and 18% reported having ADHD. Increased awareness and willingness to discuss mental health issues among young people is being noted, while some experts suggest older generations are failing to address the crisis.
